DONKEY AND ELEPHANT
FAIR
DONKEY FAIR-
Also
known as Khalkani Mata Mela celebrated in October the donkeys day
at Looniyawas near Sanganer, Thousands of donkeys from all over
north India are brought here for buying and selling. The donkey
races and sports are organized for the merriment of people. A rare
sight indeed.
The Elephant Festival
Elephant festival is an
unforgettable
event held in Jaipur's Chaugan Stadium. Dressed beautifully
rows of elephants thrills by their acts to audience making festival
an amazing one. The elephants take participates in races play
the polo, and then celebrates holi (an festival of colures)
Elephants put up a variety program and the arena is brought alive
with musician and dancer. The festival starts with an
impressive procession of the majestic animals painted and
beautifully dressed with glittering ornaments and embroidered
velvets. There are deadly and fierce elephant fights.
Mostly female elephants take participate. The mahouts (elephant
keepers) take great care to decorate the elephants painting their
trunks, foreheads, and feet with floral motifs and adorning them
from tusk to tail with interesting trinkets. .The game of polo forms
the highlight of the festival. Dressed in saffron and red turbans,
the teams try to score goals with long sticks and a plastic
football.
At end the tourists are invited to mount the elephants and play Holi.
A magnificent spectacles, it unveils the majesty and grandeur of
elephants celebrated around Holi. The Mahavats or owners proudly
decorate their elephants with bright colures, jhool., (saddle cloth)
and heavy jeweler. A royal procession of decorated elephants, a
match of elephant polo, an elephant race and playing Holi on
elephants are main events.
